>>> Troubleshooting <<<
Should you experience trouble with Avernum crashing or with
odd behavior such as static in sounds or graphics, contact the creators at
the address above. First, however, there are several ways you might be
able to make the problem go away.
1. First, restart and try again. Often, problems only happen once.
2. Sometimes files can become corrupted. If you have a lot of recurring troubles and crashes, redownloading and reinstalling the game might help, especially if a crash started happening after a long period of no problems.
3. Give Avernum more memory. In the Finder, click on Avernum and hit Command-I. Select memory and increase the numbers.
4. It might be an Extension conflict. Go into your Extensions control panel and turn off everything but DrawSprocket. Then restart.
5. Make sure you're playing Avernum with your Mac running in Thousands of Colors mode and with no other programs running.
These steps will solve most problems you encounter. If none of these things help, please let us know! If there are any bugs left, we want to squish them! Typo reports are welcome too!

>>> Isn't this game a lot like Exile: Escape From the Pit? <<<
Yes. In fact, it's a ground up rewrite, using a completely redesigned interface, game system, and engine. In addition, the whole game has been rewritten and much new material has been added. For more info about this, look on the Credits page in the Instructions file.
